FAQ
How many endings does Phantom Blade Zero have?
How do I get the Perfect Ending in Phantom Blade Zero?
Can you miss the true ending in Phantom Blade Zero?

Phantom Blade Zero tells the story of Soul, an assassin with 66 days left to live. How those days end is largely up to you: the game has 8 distinct endings, and unlike most RPGs, they are not decided by one dialogue box before the credits. They accumulate.
How Endings Are Determined
S-GAME confirmed the structure: endings are shaped by a combination of:
- Side quest completion — tales like Quick Hand Zhang’s treasure chain across multiple regions.
- Item collection — key items and upgrade materials found in hidden areas.
- Narrative choices — dialogue and decision points spread throughout the campaign, not just at the end.
In practical terms: the game is silently scoring your thoroughness from the first hour. Read NPC dialogue, inspect the lore items you pick up, and clear side content in each region before moving on.
The Perfect Ending Route
The most demanding ending — community consensus calls it the Perfect Ending — has concrete, verifiable requirements that are easy to miss:
- Repair the Illusory Pipa. Its three parts are held by a hidden boss in the Village of Lu, the chapter boss of Mandate’s Encampment, and a hidden boss in Meigu Lake’s Ruined Theater. The full hunt is documented in our Six Paths Warrant walkthrough.
- Clear the Mountain of Imprisonment. With the Pipa repaired, sail north at Meigu Lake, clear the mist, and complete the area — including the Iron Butcher boss. This area is explicitly tied to the Perfect Ending.
- Collect the Crystal Puppet Eyes. Two are confirmed: one drops from The Puppet Scavenger at the bottom of the Crimson Manor (alongside the Alloyed Scythe Blade — see the Puppet Tongue Key walkthrough), and the Mandate’s Encampment chain yields another.
- Bring Hansui’s Frost Mask to Meigu Lake’s hidden area. The mask is earned during the Puppet Scavenger encounter sequence and opens a hidden area at Meigu Lake where the Crystal Puppet Eyes are used.
Miss any link and the chain breaks — which is why most first-playthrough players land on one of the standard endings.
Route Planning Tips
- Play thorough, not fast. There is no hidden countdown punishing careful play on a standard run; the 66-day clock is narrative. Side content is where endings are won.
- Ring every Bell and backtrack. Several requirement items sit behind traversal gates (the Chain Sickle) or mist gates (the Pipa) that only open after their tools are earned — old regions hide new paths.
- Keep key items. Anything described as a mask, eye, warrant, or tongue is almost certainly ending-relevant. Do not sell or ignore them.
- Separate your save ambitions. If you want both the Perfect Ending and the 66 Days permadeath challenge, do them on different runs — the latter is its own ruleset.
Avoiding Spoilers
This guide deliberately avoids naming the endings themselves or their story content. For a first run, the spoiler-free summary is: help people, chase the strange key items, and revisit mist-covered places after you can clear them. The game rewards curiosity mechanically.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is there a true ending in Phantom Blade Zero? Yes — the community calls it the Perfect Ending, and its requirements (Crystal Puppet Eyes, Mountain of Imprisonment, Hansui’s Frost Mask chain) are verified in day-one guides.
Do dialogue choices matter for endings? They contribute, but endings are primarily gated by side content and key items. Choices shape the details; thoroughness shapes which ending you get.
Can you get all endings in one playthrough? No. With 8 endings and divergent routes, plan on multiple runs or manual save backups before key decision points.
